BASIS was chosen from a field of candidates to design a new church for a local Lutheran congregation. The plan was based upon a general layout established by the national synod, modified during the design process to meet the specific needs of this group. The ability to expand the sanctuary, classrooms and meeting space- all with minimum disruption to the existing building - was a critical component.
The design invokes a traditional 'church' structure, while taking advantage of the mountain views and complimenting the surrounding new development. Heavy stone pillars lead the worshipper into a high nave space with clerestory lighting and through a semi-transparent wall into the narthex proper, again continuing the vaulted ceilings and natural light. Interior details include exposed structure, wood accents and traditional lighting.
